Burnley’s chances of survival have taken a blow as they fell apart within 30 seconds against Chelsea this afternoon.

Already eight points from safety heading into the game, they had survived an early scare when Axel Disasi saw a header ruled out for handball after a VAR check.

But their luck didn’t last.

Five minutes before the break, fullback Lorenz Assignon was adjudged to have fouled Mykhailo Mudryk inside the penalty area, and after a VAR confirmation he was shown a second yellow card and given his marching orders.

It didn’t go down well with the Burnley bench, and manager Vincent Kompany was sent off in the aftermath, handing Burnley a double blow to their chances of staying in the game.

To rub salt in the wounds, Cole Palmer stepped up and provided a panenka penalty to hand the Blues the lead, and leave the Lancashire outfit staring down the barrel.
