Burnley are set to join the race to sign Antoine Semenyo this January.

The Clarets have been searching for an addition to their current attacking options despite the dominance of the second tier this campaign.

Vincent Kompany’s side are currently 14 points clear of 3rd place Blackburn Rovers, but are still hoping to strengthen ahead of a potential Premier League return.

Semenyo is the latest name to be linked with a move to Turf Moor, with the Cherries having also been credited with a previous interest in the Ghana international.

Jay Rodriguez and Ashley Barnes are the team’s two options to play through the middle, with the pair both showing their age at times this season.

For that reason, Burnley are pursuing the addition of a younger forward who is more suitable to Kompany’s style of play.

What position in the table did Burnley have at Christmas in 2021?

14th 16th 18th 20th

The Lancashire club have been previously linked with a number of attacking options, including the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Deniz Undav and Michael Obafemi.

It is understood that the Robins value Semenyo quite highly, with an eight-figure sum likely needed to convince City to sell.

The Verdict

This would be a statement signing from Burnley going into the second half of the season.

Many clubs would settle for their position in the table, but the club is already clearly planning for life back in the top flight.

Semenyo hasn’t had the smoothest of campaigns, with injury and the World Cup preventing him from competing as frequently as Nigel Pearson would’ve liked.

However, there is no doubting his talent and he could make a fine addition to Kompany’s team if he can continue to develop the qualities that make him stand out.
