The Bundesliga averaged the highest attendance figures in Europe, according to a study released by the Association of European Professional Football Leagues.
Each game in Germany’s top division during the 2016/17 season had an average attendance of 40,693, just pipping the Premier League in second which had an average of 35,838 fans.
The EPFL, which is the umbrella organisation for European domestic leagues, revealed that La Liga was in third place with 27,609, whilst Serie A was languishing behind with 22,177.
Bottom of the top five leagues was Ligue 1, which recorded an average attendance of 21,202.
Despite having the second highest average for last season, the Premier League actually had the ‘fullest’ stadiums, with an occupancy of 96.5%, compared to the Bundesliga’s 64.7%.
