The Kiezkickers claim victory in the first Hamburg derby in the top flight in 14 years.
Bundesliga : Hambourg SV 0-2 FC St. Pauli
Andréas Hountondji and FC St. Pauli emerged victorious in the Hamburg derby on Friday night at the Volksparkstadion (2-0). The Beninese striker netted the insurance goal against Hamburg SV on this second matchday of the Bundesliga, marking the first top-tier clash between these two rivals since 2011.
The Volksparkstadion officially reclaimed its Bundesliga status after 2,666 days away for HSV. In front of 57,000 electrified fans, the two Hanseatic city clubs faced off in an exceptional atmosphere on August 29, 2025. A significant police presence was deployed across the city to prevent clashes between rival supporters.
St. Pauli quickly took control of the contest. Adam Dzwigala opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a shot from eight meters out, finishing off a perfectly executed corner variation. The Polish defender bagged his first Bundesliga goal to give the visitors the lead, against the early run of play.
The match's momentum swung decisively in the 60th minute. Andréas Hountondji doubled the lead, skillfully rounding Daniel Heuer Fernandes before finishing from a tight angle. The 23-year-old Beninese international continues his brilliant start to the season, showcasing his knack for stepping up in crucial moments.
This goal follows his equalizer against Borussia Dortmund on the opening day, when the young striker—on loan from Burnley—found the back of the net with a precise header from a Danel Sinani cross, earning a spectacular 3-3 draw.
This prestigious win allows FC St. Pauli and Andreas Hountondji to tally four points and temporarily seize the top spot in the German championship. Alexander Blessin's men continue their excellent start to the season after last week's dramatic draw against Dortmund.
