The 28-year-old has been the club’s captain in that run, with Harry Maguire predominantly on the bench. He has been a mainstay for Man United, playing more games than anyone.

Fernandes is one of the first names on manager Erik ten Hag’s team sheet. He has scored five goals and created 19 big chances (six assists) in 25 league appearances.

He has been just as productive in the Europa League, netting twice and creating 11 big chances in ten appearances.

The former Sporting CP man took 40% of the POTM votes, beating off competition from Marcus Rashford (39%) and Lisandro Martinez (21%).

Rashford had won the award for three consecutive months. He has also won the Premier League Player of the Month award three times.

The forward has netted 28 goals and provided eight assists. His efforts have helped Man United push to third in the Premier League table.

United have already won the League Cup and have reached the FA Cup semi-finals, where they will face Brighton & Hove Albion.

Fernandes and Rashford will likely play key roles against the Seagulls when the two teams meet next month.
