Lyon’s head of recruitment Bruno Cheyrou is set to be promoted and named Sporting Director, according to a report from RMC Sport. The former Lille and Liverpool player joined Lyon in June 2020 to replace Rennes-bound Florian Maurice in the position of Olympique Lyonnais’ head of recruitment. He was then reunited with his former Liverpool boss Gérard Houllier, who was OL football advisor, until his passing in December 2020 at 73. A year later, Lyon’s sporting director Juninho resigned amid tensions with Aulas and OL head coach Rudi Garcia, leaving the position vacant.

Despite the criticism from Lyon’s fans who blame him for OL’s underwhelming transfer window, Cheyrou is set to replace Juninho and be named Sporting Director. Le Progrès report this Monday that former Lyon striker Sonny Anderson was being targeted as a potential new football advisor. According to RMC Sport, no contact has been made yet between OL and Anderson, although the Brazilian is said to be keen to take on this challenge. RMC Sport add that the former Brazilian Lyon midfielder and 2002 World Cup winner Edmilson was also in the running to occupy the position of football advisor.
