Fulham travel to Ashton Gate on Saturday to face Bristol City on matchday 9 of the EFL Championship 2021-22.

We look at a few stats to predict the match.

After a slow start to the season, Bristol City has gradually climbed up the table into 9th position now with three wins and three draws in the first eight matches. Bristol City’s recent run of form has been pretty solid as they have won two out of their four games and haven’t lost a single game since 21st August. Nigel Pearson’s men have been one of the strongest sides away from home, however, are yet to win a single match in front of their home fans this season. They are facing the best attacking side in the league, Fulham this weekend and it will certainly be a huge challenge for them.

City have scored 10 goals this season from an xG of 9.21, the lower side of the league average. They have in return conceded nine as well but just three of them in the last four games. Andreas Weimann still remains the most threatening attacker for them with four goals to his name.

Fulham have had a brilliant start to the season with five wins in eight matches and were at the top of the table till the last matchday. However, a recent slump in form and a surprising home defeat to Reading has seen them lose the top spot to AFC Bournemouth slipping down to second. The Londoners have lost two of their last three games and will obviously look turn things up with a win over Bristol City.

They have been the best attacking side in the league so far, scoring 18 goals from an xG of 19.72 -the highest in the league. Fulham are equally strong on the other side of the pitch conceding the second least number of goals this season(7). Aleksander Mitrovic has been the best player for them scoring six goals, second-most in the league and also setting up three for his teammates. Bobby Reid also has three assists to his name.

Fulham has dominated every time they have come out on the pitch even the couple of matches they have lost. They have the most shots on target in the league with 53 and look really threatening in attack. The Cottagers have spent the majority of their time on the pitch in the opposition half and it’s going to a great battle with a Bristol defence who have been pretty solid but have kept only one clean sheet till now.

The Robins have so far taken just 26 shots on target and are placed in the lower side of the league average. They have to be clinical in attack and take full advantage of the chances they can create against a Fulham defence who have been very well drilled but are looking to bounce back from few underwhelming performances recently.

Nigel Pearson has a full squad to select from before the tricky fixture and it is a huge benefit for the home side.

Marco Silva will face quite a few dilemmas in selection with Fabio Carvalho ruled out of the game due to a toe injury. Fulham are still missing Tom Cairney in midfield who has been out with a knee injury for a long time now. Kenny Tete will miss the match due to thigh problems as well.

Fulham will obviously travel to Ashton Gate as the favourites in the match but Bristol City would hope to end their winless streak at home.

We predict a 1-2 victory for Fulham at the weekend.
