Bristol City's transfer deadline day has been reported to be in "disarray" following the collapse of a loan deal with Luton for striker Jacob Brown.
Bristol City's transfer deadline day has been reported to be in "disarray" following the collapse of a loan deal to take a Luton Town striker to Ashton Gate.
Following an unbeaten start to their Championship season, with two wins and two draws from their first four games, Bristol City are well-placed for a second successive push for a play-off place after finishing sixth spot last season.
But as the transfer window closes, there are reports that their deadline day has been thrown into "disarray" by the late collapse of a loan deal with League One Luton Town.
Manager Gerhard Struber had been expecting another attacking option to be added to his ranks before the closure of the summer transfer window at 7pm on Monday evening, but the news of the loan's collapse may leave the Robins scrambling for a replacement at the very last minute.
Bristol World reports that City's anticipated signing of the Luton Town forward Jacob Brown on a season-long loan has collapsed at the last minute.
A medical was been booked for the versatile forward ahead of a move from Kenilworth Road, but the latest development has thrown a spanner in the works for their late plans.
Its now understood that this transfer will no longer be going ahead, but the reason for this having happened remains unknown.
It is still believed that Bristol City will seek to find another attacking option before the window closes, as Struber seeks to add depth to his forward options for the season ahead to compete with Emil Riis.
Jacob Brown had a serious knee injury in 2024 which kept him out of the Luton team for seven months, but he returned to the Hatters team and ended up making 29 appearances for them in the Championship last season as they slid to a second successive relegation.
It could also be that the clubs were unable to agree terms for the loan, or that the player couldn't agree terms himself - the actual issue is yet to come to light.
One of the key reasons for wanting Brown at Bristol City in the first place will have been his versatility.
Although a centre-forward, Brown can also play on either wing, and that would have given Gerhard Struber an extra layer of attacking depth.
Brown has scored just seven goals in all competitions for Luton Town over his two seasons with the club, after signing from Stoke City in 2023. He'd spent the previous four years at the Potters, scoring 30 time - 15 of which came during a highly-profitable 2023-23 season for the striker.
With Brown's arrival now not happening, Bristol City will have to act very quickly indeed, if they want to bring in the extra depth to their attack before the transfer window slams shut again.
