Bristol City are set to increase their interest in Derby County’s Curtis Davies.

According to the Mirror, Nigel Pearson is extremely interested in the Rams’ captain and is looking to secure a summer move soon.

The takeover situation at Derby has still yet to be finalised, so City will be looking to take advantage of Davies being out of contract with the club this summer.

The centre-back earned the club’s player of the year award having played every game of the season and proved his credentials as a dressing room leader.

Wayne Rooney’s side were unable to avoid relegation following a 21-point deduction penalty.

The team came within seven points of safety but were left with simply too much to overcome in order to survive.

Derby are now preparing for life under new ownership and in League One as they look to bounce straight back into the Championship.

However, with Davies out of contract in June, Bristol City are confident that they can make a successful approach for the 37-year old.

The Robins finished 17th in the table last season and avoided falling into any kind of relegation scrap under Pearson.

The City boss is looking to bring Davies in due to his personality and experience being seen as huge assets that he could bring to the team.

The Verdict

This would be an excellent signing for City to make given what he could bring to the team off the pitch.

That he was able to compete week-in and week-out for Derby at his age is also an incredible feat of athleticism.

However, relying on him to do the same for the Robins would likely be a step back for the team’s overall defensive structure.

But he can still provide plenty of cover and is still more than capable of competing at this level, so would be a brilliant addition to the team for the final year or two of his career.
