Bristol City have confirmed that Chris Martin and Timm Klose have left the club after their contract were terminated by mutual consent.
The experienced duo were both set to be out of contract at Ashton Gate in the summer and it has been apparent for some time that they weren’t in Nigel Pearson’s plans at the moment, as Martin hadn’t featured since December, with Klose’s last outing in November.
Therefore, the pair were expected to depart this month but as the deadline approached it was clear no move was imminent.
As a result, the Robins announced this evening that an agreement has been reached with the players that will see their deals ended immediately, as Pearson gave his thoughts on the players.
“Chris and Tim have both come in today and said goodbye. On behalf of everyone at Bristol City I’d like to wish them both well for the future and thank them for their service to the club.”
This will enable Martin and Klose to sign for new clubs outside of the window, meaning there is no rush for anything to have gone through by the 11pm deadline.

The verdict
This is a move that makes sense for all parties as it’s clear that the players weren’t going to be involved moving forward and they were going to leave in the summer.
So, bringing that forward allows them to search for a new club and as free agents they can sign outside of the window.
Pearson’s words are a nice touch but the Robins are going in a different direction now and they are no longer needed.
