Bristol City have named Gerhard Struber as their new head coach on a three-year contract.

The 48-year-old Austrian joins the club just a fortnight after Liam Manning left Ashton Gate to take charge at Championship rivals Norwich City.

Manning had led the Robins to a sixth-place finish last season, earning them a spot in the play-offs for the first time in 17 years.

Struber previously spent a year in charge of Barnsley between 2019 and 2020, before going on to manage New York Red Bulls, Red Bull Salzburg and most recently, FC Köln

Although he had Köln on the brink of promotion to the Bundesliga, he was let go in May with just two matches to go, despite the team being three points clear in the automatic promotion places.

Köln did go on to clinch promotion and were crowned 2. Bundesliga champions a fortnight later.
