Deal to sign Milot Rashica for just shy of £10m is one to forget for Norwich City.

Norwich City will not want a repeat of this transfer with the signing of Milot Rashica being one to forget for the Canaries

In the summer of 2021, Norwich City completed the signing of Milot Rashica from Bundesliga club Werder Bremen for a fee of £9.4m, via Sky Sports.

The deal was done with the purpose of the Kosovo international being the replacement for Emiliano Buendia, who made the move to Aston Villa after a successful season prior with the club.

The winger made the move to Carrow Road on a four-year deal and brought about much expectation by impressing overseas.

Rashica spent three-and-a-half seasons at Werder Bremen before his move to England, where he was no stranger to finding the back of the net, and being a key provider for his teammates.

However, over the course of the two seasons he spent in Norfolk, life in the Yellow and Green of Norwich City didn't quite go as planned for the man from Kosovo.

Rashica one to forget for Norwich City

After table-topping the Championship in 2020/21, the Canaries earned promotion back to the Premier League, making Rashica's arrival one of the few marquee signings they made for their upcoming Premier League campaign alongside Greece left-winger Christos Tzolis and the American Josh Sargent - also from Werder Bremen.

An overall disappointing season for Norwich saw them finish rock-bottom of the top-tier and make a swift move back down to the Championship.

Rashica was signed by Norwich to be a Premier League player but signs of showing Premier League quality were lacking from him, which is backed up by their instant relegation.

Upon signing for the Canaries, Rashica said via Sky Sports, "I will of course give my best to this football club in every game and hope to excite the fans with many goals and assists. I can't wait to get started."

However, with the 2021/22 season being one to forget for the club, it was too for Rashica, who, despite making 31 appearances, goals and assists were few and far between as he only scored one goal and provided two assists in the league.

The following season, the Kosovo international continued his career at Carrow Road under new boss David Wagner.

However, his spell in the Championship was cut very short as Rashica merely made five appearances for the Canaries before moving overseas where he spent a season-long loan with Turkish giants Galatasaray for the 22/23 campaign.

Rashica failed to reach expectations in England

Throughout his career, Rashica has been known for the danger he poses on the wing, and has always been a key part of his national team, having been a regular in the Kosovo side since 2016.

Even though Rashica showed glimpses of why the Canaries signed him, on the whole the winger showed very little promise in the final third, with the inability to deliver on a weekly basis being the main reason for his time at Carrow Road being classed as unsuccessful.

With the likes of Teemu Pukki needing service in the frontline, the link-up between Rashica and Pukki was underwhelming to say the least, as he was unable to form any real connection with the Finland international, which was a major worry for Norwich boss Wagner.

Despite not reaching the heights expected of him with Norwich, Rashica took to life in Turkish football very well, rediscovering his form with Galatasaray that had been absent in England.

Off the back of registering five goals and six assists in 30 total appearances for Galatasaray, Norwich sold Rashica to Besiktas on a permanent deal in the summer of 2023, bringing his stint in Norfolk to an end.

He will go down as a player that brought flashes of quality and excitement to the Canaries fans.

However, his clear track record of inconsistency as well as lack of end product will ultimately make the man from Kosovo go down as a failed transfer that the Canaries certainly will not want to repeat.
