PSG midfielder Carlos Soler, who spent last season on loan at West Ham United, didn’t stay with the London-based club past his initial loan agreement — though a move elsewhere in the Premier League remains possible.
Soler joined West Ham last summer for regular minutes and a fresh start. Despite interest from several clubs, West Ham secured the deal on deadline day.
However, a February report from Claret and Hugh suggested the club was unlikely to trigger the option to buy included in the loan. The transfer fee, just under €20 million, wasn’t the main hurdle — it was Soler’s high wages that made a permanent move difficult for West Ham to justify.

The Spanish midfielder is coming off a loan spell at West Ham, where he played regularly—logging 1,487 minutes—but didn’t particularly stand out, scoring just one goal. Still under contract with PSG until 2027, he could be on the move again, with Villarreal pushing for a move.
On Saturday, L’Équipe reported that Villarreal are actively exploring ways to bring back the PSG midfielder to Spain, with Marcelino eager to reunite with his former player.
The La Liga club is pushing for a loan deal, while PSG prefer a permanent transfer. His high salary remains a sticking point. Meanwhile, the French media outlet adds that Brighton & Hove Albion have also emerged as a potential destination should he want to continue playing in the Premier League.
