Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Frankie Angel has joined neighbours Lewes on a dual-registration arrangement.

The Barclays Women’s Championship club announced news of the deal via their official club website this morning.

The 18-year-old is expected to enjoy a successful career in the game but is in need of senior football experience. Angel made one appearance for Brighton & Hove Albion last season, she featured as The Seagulls lost 3-0 at West Ham United in the FA Women’s  Continental Tyres League Cup.

Angel will compete with Sophie Whitehouse and Laura Hartley for the first-choice goalkeeping jersey at Lewes.

After completing her move to The Dripping Pan, Angel said “I’m here on a dual contract and my aim is to get more experience and add more to my game. I’ve been at Brighton since I was 10. Living in Hassocks, I’ve got to know Lewes over the years, I’ve always known there’s a friendly club here and a great one to be at.

“I came and trained a bit last season, and then spoke to my coaches at Brighton. We agreed that if an opportunity at Lewes became available then I should take it. It’s all about building my game.”

Angel is Lewes’ second new signing of the day with the Sussex club having also signed midfielder Lauren Heria.
