Arsenal are set to complete the signing of Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP, according to a report from The Athletic's David Ornstein on Tuesday.
A deal worth €63.5million (£54.8m) plus €10m (£8.6m) in potential add-ons is close to being finalised, with only minor details left to resolve.
Gyökeres, 27, scored 54 goals in 52 games last season, helping Sporting win a league and cup double. He has made Arsenal his clear preference despite interest from other clubs, and a contract until 2030 is in place. His agent has reportedly waived commission to facilitate the move.
The Sweden international will become the latest signing under Arsenal’s new sporting director Andrea Berta, joining Martín Zubimendi, Christian Nørgaard, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Noni Madueke and Cristhian Mosquera.
Arsenal lacked a natural No.9 for much of last season due to injuries, finishing second in the Premier League behind Liverpool.
Gyökeres is known for more than just goals—he’s a powerful, tireless runner who thrives on exploiting space and pressing defenders. While he’s not dominant in the air, his physicality and finishing make him a serious threat.
