He went on to play 24 times in Bundesliga last season and made 6 appearances in the Champions League as Union experienced a reality check.

An early exit from the Champions League group stages coincided with poor form in the league.

Union eventually avoided relegation with victory in the final game of the season.

Espanyol’s fortunes were a stark contrast.

The Barcelona side bounced back from relegation at the first time of asking.

Following a 4th placed finish in the Segunda division, Espanyol were promoted back to La Liga through the promotion play-offs.

Espanyol defeated Real Oviedo 2-1 on aggregate, after overturning a 1-0 defeat in the first leg thanks to a brace from Javi Puado.

Kràl will join Manolo Gonzalez’s squad as the fourth transfer of the window.

Gonzalez has strengthened his defence with the signings of Alvaro Tejero from SD Eibar and Carlos Romero from Villarreal.

Kràl did not train with Union Berlin today and will immediately join up with his new side.

He is believed to have already travelled to Barcelona.

Kràl will play as a holding midfielder and can expect to play his first game against familiar foes as Espanyol play Bundesliga side, Heidenheim in their final pre-season friendly on August 10th.

The La Liga season then kicks off with a trip to Valladolid before welcoming Real Sociedad for their first home game on August 24th.

Union will have to find a replacement for Kràl quickly.

The midfielder played in all four pre-season friendlies and their season starts in just 11 days with a trip to Greifswald in the DFB Pokal.
