Crystal Palace have seen their initial approach for Bournemouth and Wales winger David Brooks rejected, as per a report from The Sun on Sunday (15.08 p.63).
Brooks, who added his third goal of the season against Nottingham Forest yesterday following a brace against MK Dons in the first round of the Carabao Cup, also saw red in the 60th minute.
The 24-year-old picked up two yellow cards at The City Ground, leaving his side with a disadvantage with 30 minutes still left to play.
Joining The Cherries in 2018, Brooks has made 84 appearances on the south coast, scoring 17 times and assisting a further 12.
Brooks arrived at Bournemouth from Sheffield United with The Cherries still in the Premier League, making 30 appearances – and scoring seven goals – in his opening season.
Last season, Brooks scored five times and grabbed six assists, with parts of his seasons disrupted by injury.
Bournemouth are currently sat fifth in the Championship table, and will be hoping that Brooks can stick around at the Vitality Stadium, as they look to win promotion back into the Premier League this term, whilst under the management of Scott Parker.
The Verdict
Brooks has shown the ability to compete in the Premier League, and he is a player that should certainly get the opportunity to ply his trade in the top tier once again.
He enjoyed an excellent pre-season and has started this campaign excellently – apart from yesterday’s red card – and is expected to be a vital part of Bournemouth’s expected promotion push this time out.
Palace is looking increasingly like a favourable destination for young, exciting players, and the chance to work under Patrick Vieira could be something that may turn Brooks’ head.
Scott Parker will be fighting to keep Brooks at The Vitality Stadium this summer, as he has the ability to win games by himself.
