With half a month remaining in the summer transfer window, the pressure is starting to increase on sides when it comes to bolstering their squad ahead of a long season.

Gillingham are currently unbeaten in league action under Gareth Ainsworth, but have drawn seven of those 11 games, and have scored more than one goal just once throughout his tenure in the dugout at Priestfields.

The Gills are desperate for attacking reinforcement if they are to make a good run at finishing in the top seven for the first time since their return to the fourth tier in the 2022/23 campaign.

Therefore, Rhys Mortley, FLW's Gillingham fan pundit, has outlined a winger and a striker whom he feels the club should target between now and September 1st.

Gillingham fan pundit wants Asher Agbinone return

"I'd go back in for Asher Agbinone from Crystal Palace on a season-long loan," Mortley opened with.

Agbinone was part of the squad regularly at Selhurst Park throughout the first half of last season. The 19-year-old appeared in 12 Premier League matchday squads and made it off the bench on two occasions in defeats to Nottingham Forest and Fulham.

He went out on loan to Gillingham for the second half of last season, but endured a stop/start time in Kent after a hamstring injury caused him to miss more games than he played in.

"He's 19, quick and can play on either flank or off the nine," Mortley said.

"That's the kind of player you need when you lack pace out wide.

"Palace gave him a couple of Premier League appearances last autumn, and they have a track record of sending attackers out on loan to experience proper men's football, which keeps a loan realistic for us."

Agibinone played just twice under Ainsworth towards the end of the season, being left on the bench for three straight games in the middle of April.

However, the 19-year-old impressed from the off in their final day win against Port Vale last season, and could return with the hunger to continue that form and establish himself as a regular in Ainsworth's side.

"For us, it's a low fee with a big upside, and it's a manager's line of adding one more without blowing the budget."

George Miller should be targeted, according to Gillingham fan pundit

Cheltenham Town frontman George Miller was the other name mentioned by Mortley.

The 27-year-old has played over 200 games across League One and Two, and scored nine in 40 League Two appearances last term.

"He's someone who can run in the channels all day, and scored 11 in all competitions last season," he added.

"Cheltenham actually put him on the transfer list in June for budget reasons, and there have already been bids throughout August, so we'd be negotiating in a buyer's market, and then we can get a good deal if we move properly."

Seb Palmer-Houlden and Sam Vokes, the two new strikers through the door at Gillingham this season, are yet to play a game for Gareth Ainsworth's side. Joe Gbode and Elliott Nevitt have been preferred so far, and Miller would help bolster that depth.

"He'll give us good legs next to a target man, can press from the front, and he hits that sweet spot of League Two proven, affordable, and quite annoying to play against," Mortley continued.

"Also, a League Two transfer to League Two transfer wouldn't provide a culture shock, so there'd be a reasonable expectation that Miller could have an impact going into another League Two team.

"It's someone that you'd want to go for, and it's someone with experience."
