On the verge of qualifying for European football next season, Borussia Mönchengladbach are reportedly eyeing two Bundesliga players for their summer restock. Sky Germany claims that Union Berlin striker Benedict Hollerbach is on the club’s wishlist. Kicker links both Gladbach and Augsburg with VfB Stuttgart winger Fabian Rieder, currently working in Swabia on loan from Stade Rennes.

Hollerbach effectively serves as the only reliable goal scorer in the Union squad. Eight of Union’s 26 league goals this season have come from the 23-year-old. Only Mainz 05’s Jonathan Burkardt (15 of 46 league goals) and Gladbach’s own Tim Kleindienst (15 of 45 league goals) have contributed a greater share of league tallies to their team.

Gladbach spent €7m to acquire Kleindienst from Heidenheim this past summer. After proving himself for both club and country this year, Kleindienst has pumped his estimated market value up from €6m to €17m. Hollerbach – currently a €7.5m-valued striker – could be obtained for a reasonable sum and will surely be interested in emulating Kleindienst’s rise.

Rieder garnered plenty of attention at Stuttgart early in the season, most notably when registering two assists during a matchday 3 win over Gladbach. Since then, however, the 23-year-old has fallen off due to injury and form issues. This leaves Stuttgart disinterested in pulling the trigger on his reported €14m purchase option.

Augsburg and Gladbach were both linked with Rieder this past summer and may be interested in acquiring him on loan from his Ligue 1 parent club. The 23-year-old remains under contract with Rennes until 2027. A current estimated market value of €7m, per Kicker, nevertheless doesn’t jive with Rennes’ current asking price for an outright purchase.
