Borussia Mönchengladbach face a goalkeeper dilemma as Jonas Omlin faces surgery | OneFootball

Multiple outlets report that Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper, Jonas Omlin will have an operation on a recurring shoulder injury and will be out for several months meaning the club now faces a dilemma in goal.

Omlin has suffered from a shoulder injury for several months now but has persisted through the pain and played in Gladbach’s opening two games of the season as well as their DFB-Pokal game. The 29-year-old is now required to have surgery on the injured shoulder to fix the issue.

Ahead of their game against Bayern Munich on Saturday, the club now faces a dilemma when it comes to the goalkeeping position. The two candidates to replace Omlin are Jan Olschowsky, who spent time as Gladbach’s number one last season, and Mortiz Nicolas. Gladbach manager Gerardo Seoane has yet to make it clear which keeper he will play as number one but as Olschowsky missed Gladbach’s pre-season training due to injury it is likely that Nicolas will start against Bayern.

The alternative is to use experience however this would indicate that the club does not trust their youth options. Gladbach currently have Tobias Sippel in their ranks who also played as number one at times last season.

They could go down the route of entering the transfer market and sign a keeper on loan. Rheinische Post suggests, two options are Fabian Bredlow (VfB Stuttgart) and Ron-Robert Zieler (Hannover 96), while Sky Germany has confirmed that Ralf Fährmann (Schalke) will not join Gladbach.

The other option is to look at goalkeepers who are currently free agents and two options are Rune Jarstein (formerly of Hertha Berlin) and Timo Horn (formerly of 1.FC Köln).
