Sport1 are reporting that Borussia Dortmund wish to extend Julian Brandt’s contract after the attacking midfielder has began to find consistency in his form.

Brandt’s current contract at Dortmund expires in 2024 but due to his good form and his bigger influence in the dressing room under Edin Terzic, they wish to begin talks over an extension. Brandt joined Dortmund in 2019 from Bayer Leverkusen for €25m but has struggled to find a place in the team as well as consistency when in the team until this season.

The attacking midfielder can imagine staying in Dortmund as well. During the winter training camp in Marbella, he spoke to Sport1 expressing his opinion on an extension: “If everything goes well here, we hug each other and I extend, then I would be happy.”

The 26-year-old currently has six goals and four assists in the Bundesliga this season and stepped up in the absence of Marco Reus. At the weekend, Brandt sealed the win for Dortmund against his hometown team Werder Bremen with his goal in the 84th minute.
