After moving to secure a replacement for Bryan Mbeumo, Borussia Dortmund have rebuffed an offer for Brentford for Maximilian Beier. The Athletic report that the Premier League side submitted an offer of around £45m for the German attacker which would have surpassed their record signing.
Brentford’s interest in Beier only came 24 hours ago, with Bild reporting that they had been readying an offer of €70m including bonuses to Borussia Dortmund for Beier. But it’s now known that their offer was less than initially expected. As per The Athletic, Brentford are unlikely to go in with an improved offer and will instead turn towards other targets – despite it being known that head coach Keith Andrews sees Baier as a ‘perfect fit for his playing style’.
Even with the signing of Fabio Silva for €26.5m, it’s unlikely that Borussia Dortmund would sell Beier before Monday’s deadline – it’s also known that Beier wants to play Champions League football, while Aston Villa are also expected to test BVB’s resolve by submitting an offer.
