Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos has reportedly agreed to join Arsenal this summer.

The 29-year-old has spent five seasons with BVB having joined for €9.5m from Werder Bremen back in 2013.

The Greece international has been a regular in the starting XI this season, playing 43 times in all competitions for the Schwarzgelben.

However, with his contract set to expire at the end of next season, the club are keen to find a buyer for his services now – that club, say Kicker, is Arsenal.

They report that the player has agreed in principle to sign for Unai Emery’s men, even though neither team has come to an agreement on price just yet.

Kicker cite ‘reports in the English press’ which say that Dortmund want €18m whilst the north London outfit are willing to part with €15m.

With Laurent Koscielny set for an extended spell on the sidelines through injury and Per Mertesacker retiring, a new central defender is clearly their top priority for this window.
