Bologna director Giovanni Sartori rejected an approach from Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis recently, making it clear that he was happy in Emilia-Romagna.

The Partenopei are on the hunt for a new sporting director ahead of the summer, with De Laurentiis wanting a change after the unconvincing work of Mauro Meluso. Recent reports suggested that he’d agreed terms with Juventus director Giovanni Manna to replace him.

Napoli have been in a state of chaos since the departures of Luciano Spalletti and Cristiano Giuntoli last summer, a situation that has derailed their post Scudetto season. De Laurentiis knows that decisive action is needed in the summer to try and quickly turn things around.

Sartori chooses Bologna over Napoli

Corriere dello Sport via TMW details how De Laurentiis contacted Sartori a few weeks ago to sound out a possible move to Napoli at the end of the season. He was quickly rebuffed by the Bologna director, who is keen to move forward in Emilia-Romagna.

He reportedly told the Napoli chief: “No thanks president, I feel very good at Bologna. I’ll stay here.”

Sartori has built a strong relationship with Bologna president Joey Saputo and his son Luca over the last few years and is happy with the direction of the project at the club.
