Bologna confirmed Lewis Ferguson suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and the Scotland international will need surgery, missing Euro 2024.

There were already fears after he limped off during Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Monza that this was a serious injury setback.

This afternoon, the club released a statement confirming that Ferguson has been diagnosed with a lesion to the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Ferguson will have to go under the knife and this type of injury generally requires six months out of action.

It is a double blow for the 24-year-old, who will miss the rest of the season and cannot participate in Euro 2024 this summer with Scotland.

This can also change his future, as he had been heavily linked with a move to Juventus at the end of this term.

Ferguson made 33 competitive appearances for Bologna this season, scoring six goals and providing five assists.

If the team does qualify for the Champions League, he will miss the start of that tournament too.
