Blackburn are set to make an offer of £1.5m for Legia Warsaw centre-back Steve Kapuadi.
Blackburn Rovers are set to make an offer of around £1.5m for Legia Warsaw defender Steve Kapuadi as they look to strengthen their options at the back.
Rovers just missed out on the play-offs last season in what was a turbulent campaign that saw manager John Eustace depart for Derby County, with Valerien Ismael named as his replacement.
After a difficult start, the Lancashire outfit improved significantly under Ismael in the final part of the season and finished seventh in the table, so they will head into the new season with optimism.
But, there’s no denying that reinforcements are needed to improve the squad, and bringing in a centre-back was always going to be a priority, with Danny Batth set to join Derby, after FLW revealed he was a target for the Rams.
It appears the club are making moves on that front, as reporter Alan Nixon revealed that Blackburn will offer £1.5m to Legia Warsaw for Kapuadi, who stands at 6ft 5in.
The 27-year-old, who was capped by DR Congo for the first time this summer, is entering the final year of his contract with the Polish giants, and he has been a key figure for the side over the past two seasons, which includes playing in Europe.
It’s also explained that this is a target pushed by Rudy Gestede, with the sporting director trying to utilise the foreign market during the summer window.
Blackburn were initially in talks with fellow left-footed defender Modibo Sagnan of Montpellier, but negotiations appear to have gotten nowhere, leading the transfer team to make a move for Kapaudi.
It remains to be seen whether Legia accept this seven-figure offer, but this would be an exciting signing for Blackburn if they can get it over the line.
Firstly, Kapuadi has a good pedigree, as he is a national team player with DR Congo now, he has played in Europe with Legia, and he has handled himself well in that environment.
It had been claimed the likes of Wolves and Union Berlin were tracking the defender earlier this month as well, so that suggests this would be a coup for Ismael if they could bring Kapuadi to Ewood Park.
At 27, he is also a signing for the here and now, and the focus for Rovers this window needs to be on improving the XI, ensuring they can push for the play-offs again next season.
