According to the Daily Mail, Leeds United showed an interest in the player and was discussed as a potential option at Elland Road.

However, Rovers look set to win the race for his signature, with John Eustace likely to be able to spend a decent amount of money in the transfer market between now and the end of the summer transfer window after selling Sammie Szmodics.

Szmodics was sold to Ipswich Town for a reported £10m, which should give Rovers the opportunity to make some positive additions before the window closes on August 30th.

Leeds are another team that could spend a decent amount during the remainder of the summer window, having seen a few key players depart Elland Road in recent months.

Archie Gray, Glen Kamara, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter have all secured exits for big fees - and the sales of Diego Llorente, Marc Roca and Charlie Cresswell would have boosted Daniel Farke's budget as well.

They have been linked with a move for a number of wide players recently, which isn't a surprise considering they lost former key man Summerville this summer and saw Jaidon Anthony return to AFC Bournemouth following the end of his loan spell.

Jonathan Rowe was one of their targets, but he is set for a move to Marseille, and the Whites have also taken an interest in Manuel Benson and Roland Sallai.

It remains to be seen who arrives in West Yorkshire before the end of the window, but it doesn't look as though Motondo will be making the move to Elland Road.

Blackburn Rovers set to recruit Rabbi Matondo

Eustace needs more attacking quality after the departure of Szmodics - and Matondo is one player who could potentially come in to strengthen Rovers' attack.

It's very unlikely that they will be able to secure an adequate replacement for their former forward before the window closes, with the player scoring 27 league goals last season.

However, they could add more quality to their attack and share their goals out between many members of the first team to fill the void that Szmodics has created with his departure.

Matondo, 23, registered six goals and four assists in 31 competitive appearances last term and has potentially done enough to put himself in the shop window for this summer.

His contributions last season certainly looked to have paid dividends, with the 23-year-old looking set to earn a move to Lancashire, where he will have another chance to prove his worth in England.

Rabbi Matondo could be a good signing for Blackburn Rovers

Matondo is only 23 at this stage and will only get better.

With this in mind, he could be an excellent signing for both on-field and off-field reasons.

On the pitch, he could help to try and fill the void that Szmodics' departure has created and could register plenty of goals and assists.

Off the field, he could make Rovers a very handsome profit in the future.

This is a potential signing that could produce big rewards for the Lancashire club.
