Blackburn Rovers could face yet another injury set back as midfielder John Buckley has reportedly picked up an injury in training ahead of the side's game, on Good Friday, against Ipswich Town.

Things seem to be going from bad to worse for Rovers at the moment. They've had many humiliations and embarrassing moments this season, whether it be on or off the pitch.

The failed Duncan McGuire January transfer which fell through because they saved the registration papers instead of submitting them to the EFL, as per The Athletic. The sports outlet added that they had related issues in the prior winter window when they tried to bring in Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O'Brien on loan. That was more down to a late spanner in the works from the EFL, but culpability for the American's failed move fell solely on Blackburn.

Rovers have the second-worst defence in the league as well, with 64 goals conceded in 38 games, and have only been kept afloat by the 21 goals that their Republic of Ireland international, Sammie Szmodics, has managed to contribute this season.

They have some tough fixtures coming up that they are going to need to get some points from, but the chances of that happening have been hurt by an injury to one of John Eustace's preferred midfielders.

John Buckley suffers training injury

The 24-year-old, who was on loan at Sheffield Wednesday for the first half of the season, was said to have limped out of training, according to journalist Alan Nixon, via his Patreon. Nixon added that Buckley may require a scan on the injury, the type of which isn't known at this time, ahead of the team's clash with Ipswich on Friday.

The club's Icelandic winger Arnor Sigurdsson has also been bitten by the injury bug over the international break, and Buckley joining him on the sidelines is becoming more and more likely.

Blackburn's tough run-in

Over the six weeks, Eustace's team will take on all the top four, with only the matches against the Tractor Boys and Southampton being at Ewood Park. The fixtures versus the current top two - Leeds United and Leicester City - will take place on the 13th April and the 4th May (the final day of the season), respectively.

Rovers only play one other relegation-threatened team in their final eight matches: Sheffield Wednesday.

Blackburn needed to make more of recent run of games to avoid the drop

17th is where Rovers sit in the Championship table, which, without any context, would make fans feel less worried about the possibility of relegation. Unfortunately fans do understand the context, and that context is that there are only five points between second-bottom and 16th place.

The Lancashire side have a three point advantage on Huddersfield Town, who hold the final relegation spot, and they also have a better goal difference than the Terriers, and almost every other team below them. But the concern will come when they look at where the points could come from between now and the end of the season.

That run-in is very tough, and when you look back on the games that they've had over the past two months, they've dropped points in a lot of games that they shouldn't have. Blackburn have been beaten by Queens Park Rangers and Birmingham City, who are below them in the table, and have drawn with Plymouth Argyle and Millwall in recent weeks.

These 'six-pointers' haven't been taken advantage of, and that's what could ultimately come back to bite them.
