Everyone involved with Leyton Orient had a wild ride on Tuesday as the O’s secured promotion to League One … with 10 men in pitch black darkness.

A floodlight failure struck with the League Two leaders two goals behind and down a player at Gillingham.

But it didn’t dampen the celebrations of the away support.

And they soon had a goal to celebrate, even though it came 134 miles to the east as Swindon took the lead against promotion hopefuls Bradford.

That goal saw Orient secure promotion but the game was delayed further as the lights came back on and the players celebrated on the pitch.

The final 10 minutes or so were played out like a friendly, with both teams happy with the result, Gillingham passed the ball about at the back unchallenged, recording 92.4% possession from the 80th minute on.

A 2-0 win for the home side to secure safety but it was the O’s who truly had a night to remember.
