Birmingham City have officially announced the signing of winger Emil Hansson, bringing the 26-year-old to St. Andrew’s from Eredivisie outfit Heracles Almelo. Having just suffered the drop the Championship to League One, this appears to be a hugely ambitious signing from Birmingham. The left-winger has put pen to paper on a three-year deal valid until 2027.
So, what should Birmingham City fans or EFL followers know about Emil Hansson? The Norwegian-born wideman kicked off his career with SK Brann before moving to Feyenoord in 2017, where he rose through the ranks in the youth academy before joining RKC Waalwijk on loan. Over two spells in the Netherlands with Waalwijk he racked up 26 goal contributions in 51 matches earning himself a permanent move to Hannover.
Hansson spent two years with Eredivisie outfit Fortuna Sittard before experiencing his most impressive spell with Heracles. The former Swedish youth international help the club gain promotion to the top flight in the 2022/23 campaign, before helping them survive the drop last season. With the ability to play anywhere across the frontline, this could turn out to be an excellent bit of business from Birmingham, who are looking to immediately bounce back up to the Championship. Emil Hansson has become Birmingham’s fourth signing of the summer, and it certainly doesn’t seem like he’ll be their last.
