The Irish defender came through the ranks at Derby County, and his impressive performances at Pride Park prompted the Seagulls to bring him to the Premier League in a deal worth around £9m in January.

Whilst the 23-year-old got a taste of top-flight action last season, his game time was limited, and with Olivier Boscagli and Diego Coppola joining Brighton, Cashin has fallen further down the pecking order at the Amex Stadium.

Birmingham City expected to win transfer race for Brighton’s Eiran Cashin

Therefore, a loan move has always been on the cards this summer, as Brighton look to send Cashin out to get regular game time.

He claims that a host of clubs in the second tier have been tracking Cashin, with Blues now ‘leading’ their rivals as they look to secure him on loan for the 2025/26 campaign.

Eiran Cashin would be another statement signing for Birmingham City

It has been a fantastic window for Blues so far following their promotion from League One, with Kyogo Furuhashi, Tommy Doyle and Demarai Gray among the new arrivals, with FLW exclusively revealing that Marvin Ducksch is set to follow.

So, Chris Davies’ squad is looking in brilliant shape ahead of the new season, but Cashin would be another impressive addition, and he will give them another quality option in central defence to go alongside Christoph Klarer and Phil Neumann.

It is an area Blues lack depth, so Cashin would address that, and he would back himself to force his way into the XI, even if it would be a difficult task.

But, for Davies, it would be another exciting talent to work with, and, crucially, Cashin is a player who has proven himself in the Championship with Derby, so you would expect him to hit the ground running, and there would be no fears about how he would adapt.

Plus, he fits the profile of the squad with his age, and he will be desperate to show what he can do on a consistent basis after struggling for minutes with Brighton.

Now, Birmingham will be working to finalise this move, and it will be yet another great signing as they try to make it back-to-back promotions.
