The next week and a half will be one of the most important periods in Birmingham City's 149-year history, as the Midlands outfit battle to avoid relegation to the third tier of English football for the first time in 30 years.

The Blues haven't played third tier football since winning promotion from the old Division Two in 1995, and Gary Rowett's side will desperately be looking to pick up maximum points from their two remaining games in a bid to stay up.

However, it is out of their control thanks to dropping points away to Rotherham United last week, and Sheffield Wednesday recording a victory away to Blackburn Rovers.

Whilst things are looking up for Birmingham City off the field, staying in the Championship will be their main priority over the next week and a half, and the club know that if results don't go their way they could be relegated this weekend.

Blues face Huddersfield Town on Saturday, before playing Norwich the following week. The game against the Terriers on Saturday provides them with the perfect chance to pick up a win.

Birmingham World have reported that striker Lukas Jutkiewicz remains a doubt for Blues' trip to Yorkshire, with the player still nursing a knee problem that he suffered against Watford in March, prior to Gary Rowett's arrival.

The 35-year-old is vastly experienced and would have been useful to have available given the magnitude of Saturday's game, but it looks as if he'll miss out.

However, Marc Roberts looks in the frame to start after sitting on the bench last weekend, whilst Oliver Burke is also fit after playing 45 minutes against Rotherham.

Tony Pulis sends warning to Birmingham City

Former Stoke City and West Brom boss Tony Pulis has fired a warning to Birmingham City ahead of their do-or-die Championship fixtures against Huddersfield and Norwich.

Blues have made headlines in the last week or so after announcing plans to build a 62,000 seater stadium on a 48-acre site in the city.

Whilst he finds it great that the club are showing some ambition, Pulis believes the club would be better served focusing on preserving their Championship status currently.

He said, via OLBG, "They've got rich owners there now and it sounds as if they want to be progressive.

"However, you can have the best stadium in the world but if your team is not winning matches, you're not going to fill it.

“Tom Brady and the owners' priority has to be staying up first. After staying up, they need to look at strengthening the team on the pitch so they can stabilise in the Championship.

“Talk of building stadiums and doing this or that is good, and I'm sure the supporters are excited, but if you ask the majority of supporters will want the team to be sorted out before anything else.”

Dwight Yorke backs Birmingham City for survival from Championship drop zone

Former Birmingham City striker Dwight Yorke has backed Birmingham City to avoid the drop and remain a Championship club next season.

Yorke, who spent the 2004/05 season with Birmingham, has backed both Blues and fellow former side Blackburn Rovers to preserve their Championship status.

The former Manchester United striker made just 16 appearances for Birmingham and is remembered more for his time at bitter rivals Aston Villa, but it's clear he still thinks of the club fondly.

He said via TVSportGuide: "Birmingham City are on the knife edge of being relegated, but I think they will just about stay up by the skin of their teeth.

"Villa supporters won't be happy with me saying this, but I think it would be nice for Birmingham to at least stay in the Championship. Birmingham is a big city and it needs its clubs to be performing.

"Blackburn Rovers will be fine and stay up. They have really tailed off, but they looked really good at the start of the season. They just lost to Sheffield Wednesday, which isn't a great result but I think they're a strong enough club to stay up."

It's been a miserable campaign for the first-team, but Birmingham City's under-18's side have given the club something to cheer about after it was confirmed that they've been crowned PDL North 2023/24 Champions.

The young Blues have won the title with three games to spare, and are 16 points clear having gone unbeaten away from home this season.

Birmingham City's players found out they had won the league whilst training, sparking wild celebrations with players and staff all involved.
