New Birmingham manager Davies has made it clear that he feels his team are "going somewhere" under his management.

The 39-year-old was named as the Blues' boss after working in a coaching capacity at several big clubs throughout his career, including Liverpool and Celtic. He left his role as Ange Postecoglu's assistant at Tottenham Hotspur to make the move to the midlands, and signed a four-year deal at St Andrew's.

Birmingham's owners intend to return the club to the Championship at the first time of asking after they were relegated last season, and will play in the third tier for the first time since 1995.

Davies did not hide his confidence after accepting his first managerial role. In an interview with Birmingham Live, he explained that he feels he could have taken a job in a higher division than League One and outlined his vision for Birmingham's future:

"I'm someone who could well be a manager in the Championship now, possibly even higher who knows, but I have chosen to come to a club that's going somewhere.

"It's for me to make the vision, the project and where we're going with this crystal clear to them so they can see that yes, we're in League One, but we're going somewhere and you want to be a part of that.

"That is exactly the message I'm going to be getting across to those players who are maybe considering where they are at now in relation to where they want to be."

The manager touched on the fact that he will try and convince Birmingham's key players to stick around and help the club achieve promotion back out of League One next season.

Polish midfielder Krystian Bielik and South Korea international Paik Seung-ho are just two players who may not want to hurt their chances of playing international football by spending a season in League One.

Davies will hope that his vision can convince the likes of Bielik, Juninho Bacuna and Koji Miyoshi to stay at St Andrews.

Anything short of promotion will be considered failure

Birmingham's owners have made it clear to Davies that promotion from League One is the objective next season.

Davies explained to Birmingham Live that the prospect of leading Birmingham to "the top" is something that really excites him:

"The owners have said they want us to first and foremost put a really strong squad together. There's a lot of work to be done there. They want us to push and have the best chance of bouncing back immediately to the Championship.

"The owners are ultimately looking at this as a really long-term project to take the club to the top. That's something that really excited me. The first step for us is making sure we navigate our way out of this league."

Birmingham fans will be optimistic ahead of next season, as Davies has plenty of experience coaching at big clubs and their budget is expected to be one of the highest in the division.

It is clear that Davies has confidence in his ability to achieve the targets laid out by the club's owners during his time at Birmingham.

He will hope that he does not live to regret any of his comments at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, as he will be under serious pressure if he fails to achieve the objective of promotion.
