According to Sky Sports Transfer Centre (September 1, 12.44pm), the Robins are refusing a sale for the 28-year-old as we approach the final hours of the summer window.

Vyner has been a key figure for the Championship side in recent years, and has started all four of their league games so far this season.

However, the defender is now in the final year of his contract, and could become a free agent in 2026 unless an extension can be agreed.

Birmingham and Wrexham have both reportedly been told that Vyner is not for sale this summer at any price.

It is believed that the Robins would not accept an offer even as high as £5 million for the 28-year-old, who is eligible to play for Kenya internationally.

New City boss Gerhard Struber is keen to keep hold of the player, particularly with so little time left to find a potential replacement if he was to leave.

It’s understood that the player is not currently pushing for a move, and is relaxed about his future at Ashton Gate despite his expiring contract.

Birmingham and Wrexham have both been quite active in the transfer market this summer since gaining promotion from League One, but they have been unable to convince Bristol City to cash in on Vyner.

But the defender could become a free agent at the end of the campaign, and it is clear that he will have interest, which could impact potential contract talks.

The Robins have made a promising start to the new Championship campaign, with Struber’s side earning eight points from a possible 12.

It’s too late for Bristol City to cash in on Zak Vyner interest

If Bristol City were willing to consider a sale of Vyner this summer, then the time to pursue his signature was weeks ago.

Birmingham and Wrexham were never going to make any headway into a deal now with so little time left in the market, but they have made their intentions clear going into possible free agency next year.

This could have a knock-on effect at Bristol City, as the defender may use that information to his advantage in contract talks.

While the two clubs may have looked into a deal now, it’s likely that they’ve made their interest known in a bid to lay the groundwork for next year, possibly even as soon as January.
