As reported by Romain Molina and confirmed in L’Équipe, the Binnie family, based out of Boston and who last season attempted to acquire Derby County in England, are closing in on a deal to acquire French 3rd division side Dijon FCO.

William Binnie runs US investment fund Carlisle Capital and made an attempt to run for the US Senate in recent times.

His sons, Adam and Colin, are understood to be leading the family’s efforts to break into European football. Molina – who has a strong reputation for credible reporting in the world of French football club acquisitions – understands that the family are also negotiating for the acquisition of Norwegian 2nd division side Stabæk.

When asked about the possibility of selling the club to the Binnie family, Dijon owner Olivier Delcourt had the following to say:

“Yes, talks are ongoing. I have indicated that there has been a company that has been engaged by me (SportValue) to support me (in finding investors). There is nothing new, these sources are 2 months old.”

In the meantime, Dijon are seeking to decide who will be the coach next season – Pascal Dupraz, who arrived towards the end of the Ligue 2 season in a failed attempt to stave off relegation, is willing to remain with the club in National 1. Dijon have however been talking with other possible coaches.

There are a number of additional candidates including Benoît Tavenot, the former assistant of Frédéric Antonetti at Strasbourg; Laurent Peyrelade and a double act of Roland Vieira-Florent Balmont.

The family were recently in negotiations to make an investment into French 3rd division side Versailles, who had mandated ex-LFP President Didier Quillot to find them foreign investment.
