Big Phil hints all 6 ‘out-of-contract’ Rangers players to exit

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has confirmed Borna Barisic will be far from the last out of contract player to leave Rangers, admitting that ‘several’ of those whose deals expire this summer will exit, inferring that they all will.

Jon McLaughlin, Leon Balogun, Ryan Jack, Kemar Roofe, and John Lundstram join Barisic as the players whose contracts are up in June, and the manager confirmed that a multitude of them will go.

He said:

“We have several players out of contract who will leave the building so you need to replace them without money coming inside.”

That’s Barisic for sure, and up to another 5 players, including the popular Balogun who fans would love to keep but who wasn’t offered a new contract, unfortunately, and we understand won’t be, but maybe there will be a last-minute change of heart, however unlikely.

But there’s little-to-no chance Jack, McLaughlin or Roofe will be offered new deals, and that means that all 6 players out of contract are likely to move on to pastures new.

It’s a summer of a lot of change at Rangers, and it is change that is significantly needed – Celtic’s squad is vastly superior to Rangers’ and it suffers very few injury problems.

Brendan Rodgers, sadly, has an embarrassment of riches to choose from while Clement was having to delve into the B side to find players for the squad on Saturday.

But as he says, you have to replace these players without any money coming in for them, so that definitely doesn’t help financial matters at the club.

It’s a fair chunk of cash that will leave for nothing – £15M for Lundstram and Barisic alone is a loss of a lot of money, and Rangers have to dig into our own coffers and be inventive to replace that.

But then, this is why the scouts and the management are on the big bucks.
