Eintracht Women are bidding to clinch third place in their final match of the season against Werder Bremen. Regardless of what happens in rivals Potsdam’s fixture, SGE are only interested in a win.

The Eagles, in fourth place and level on points with Turbine Potsdam, want to snatch third place on the final matchday of the season and thereby qualify for the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Much will also depend on Turbine’s game at FC Bayern Munich. With Potsdam having a better goal difference, a win for them in Munich will end Eintracht’s dream. Should they lose, a draw at home to Werder Bremen would be enough for the Eagles.

“We’ve grafted hard all year for this moment and done good work,” said team captain Tanja Pawollek. “Now we need to take care of our business and then we’ll see what comes from it. It would mean a huge amount to the whole team if we end the season in third place.”

Head coach Niko Arnautis is also clearly focussing on his team’s strengths and their own match. “To be honest, it doesn’t matter to me who we’re playing. With our fans behind us, we want to win the match. We’ll block everything else out because what happens in Munich is out of our control. If we get the three points, then our chances are good.”
