Roma averaged 2.2 points per game away from the Stadio Olimpico since Daniele De Rossi replaced José Mourinho but Giallorossi legend Giuseppe Giannini insists the team improved ‘everywhere’ under DDR.

Roma are set to meet strugglers Udinese at the Bluenergy Stadium on Sunday, just three days after beating Milan at San Siro in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals.

Sunday’s printed edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, on page 16, reports Roma averaged 2.2 points per game away in Serie A under their new coach.

De Rossi secured victories under Salernitana, Frosinone, and Monza and collected draws against Lecce and Fiorentina. DDR is en route to equalling Rudi Garcia as the best debutant Roma coach in away matches, as the Frenchman remained unbeaten in his first eight games away from the Olimpico.

On the other hand, Mourinho averaged only 0.8 points per game in 10 away Serie A matches before being sacked, getting two wins, two draws and six defeats.

Interviewed by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma legend Giannini said Roma improved “everywhere” since De Rossi replaced Mou.

“There used to be irritable and fearful players, but De Rossi has worked on the team’s mentality and confidence,” the 59-year-old noted.

“After that, De Rossi put some important ideas on the pitch. The last one was El Shaarawy playing on the right. He didn’t want to play there before.”

This, of course, means De Rossi must remain in charge beyond the summer.

“Absolutely. He has brought tranquillity and interesting ideas. On top of that, he’s brought that Roma identity, which is always nice to have at the club,” Giannini concluded.
