After KV Mechelen’s convincing victory over OH Leuven at the weekend, Besnik Hasi confirmed that he will leave the club at the end of the season. Brought in to help the side avoid relegation, Hasi almost took the side to the top six. The club and head coach had been in discussions about extending his contract beyond the end of this season, with the original deal having been just a short-term one until the end of this current campaign.
Gent have been heavily linked to Hasi given his good run of form with Mechelen, and now it appears that this might become even more viable. However, other clubs are also on alert should their head coaches leave in the summer, with Genk’s Wouter Vrancken seen as one who could move on.
KV Mechelen will now be looking for a new head coach for the forthcoming season. They will hope that the recent form the side had been on under Hasi will be carried forward into the new season, so that they are not fighting against the drop this time next year.
