Curious footage of Manchester City star Bernardo Silva trying his best to hide after being spotted in the street has gone viral on social media.
One of the Premier League’s most talented players, Silva has lit up English football since his £43.5 million move from AS Monaco in 2017.
The Portugal international has helped City win four Premier League titles, the same number of League Cups and the FA Cup over the past five years.
Nicknamed ‘Bubblegum’ because of the way the ball sticks to his feet, there aren’t many - if any - footballers in the Premier League who are as technically gifted as City’s No. 20.
Silva is one of those footballers with no interest in the limelight. He just loves playing football.
One of the drawbacks of becoming a professional footballer for an elite-level player like Silva is losing your anonymity.
You can’t go anywhere without someone asking for an autograph or a selfie - especially in the modern era.
Footage has been uploaded to TikTok - and reposted on Twitter - that appears to show Silva hiding from a member of the public.
Silva covers his face with his arm against the door of a building but it’s too late.
The person filming approaches the Premier League star before saying his name: “Bernardo Silva!”
Silva then takes his arm away and says to the person filming: “What are you doing, my friend?”
It seems the fan in question got his selfie, although you have to question his methods.
Imagine how Roy Keane would have reacted if someone filmed him in the street like that.
Let’s check out the reaction on social media:
This isn’t the first time this year that someone from Man City has been filmed in the street.
Back in the summer, City boss Pep Guardiola was chased while by a fan while riding his bike late at night in Manchester city centre.
While just last month, a United fan filmed Erling Haaland walking through Manchester and told him he’d joined the wrong club.
While some stars of football like Haaland are not fazed by a member of the public filming them, others like Silva and Guardiola clearly don’t appreciate it as much.
And as football fans it’s important to remember these aren’t just superstar players - they’re human beings like the rest of us.
