Inter Miami figure Benjamin Cremaschi is expected to miss the beginning of the 2024 Major League Soccer season after suffering from a sports hernia.
The midfielder has since undergone surgery for the injury, and received a two to three month timeline for a potential return. Cremaschi failed to make the team’s roster for the Asian part of the preseason tour, signaling some worry before the news was announced by the team on January 27.
Cremaschi played an integral role for the Herons in 2023, managing two goals and four assists in 28 appearances. He now joins Facundo Farias on the bench, after the argentinian player picked up an ACL tear while featuring against El Salvador in the preseason friendly.
Though the team made a couple of signings already this offseason, adding Luis Suarez and Nicolas Freire, head coach Gerardo Martino addressed roster concerns.
"We understand that's an area where we can be left unprotected, especially after Facundo's unfortunate injury," head coach Gerardo Martino said earlier this week when asked about additional offseason signings.
"As long as there are possibilities of searching and negotiating beneficially for the club, we're going to do it."
Inter Miami kick off the 2024 MLS campaign on February 21 when hosting Real Salt Lake at DRV PNK stadium.
