Bellingham on ‘unpredictable’ City ahead of Champions League clash

Jude Bellingham says it’s City’s unpredictability which makes us a dangerous proposition for the biggest teams in Europe.

Bellingham is part of the Real Madrid squad in Manchester for Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg at the Etihad Stadium.

The two sides played out a thrilling 3-3 first leg draw in the Spanish capital last week, meaning it’s winner takes all in this clash.

City are defending European champions after lifting this famous trophy last season and have played Madrid in the knockout stages in each of the last three campaigns.

Having gone on to lift the Club World Cup last December, Pep Guardiola’s City are currently the best side on the planet.

Asked in his pre-match press conference about the threats we pose, 20-year-old Bellingham was full of praise for our entire squad.

“I think it's the unpredictability,” he said.

“If you focus on one player they have 10 others who can hurt you. We have to take them on their individual merits and see what each person can do.

“I think everyone has talked a lot about them.

“They’re the Treble winners and an amazing team. That's the impression from outside. I don't know the favourites. We’re a good team too.

“We have to attack as a team and defend as a team. We need to be brave and come out and play our game."

Our route to last season’s success included a 4-0 hammering of the Spanish giants at our home following a draw at the Bernabeu.

Bernardo Silva insisted earlier today that match will have little bearing on this encounter and Bellingham was inclined to agree.

The England international was at Borussia Dortmund at the time but he did make it clear that result stung for some of those players involved 12 months ago.

“I spoke to some of the lads and asked how it felt. They said it wasn’t nice. I've been on the end of big losses. I understand their frustration,” he said.

“We need to regulate that with knowing it's a new game and an even score going into the second leg. We’re all professional enough to know it’s the past and attack the next game.”
