Last season, Cercle Brugge had their best season for over a decade. The side qualified for European football and competed in the Championship play-offs. One of the youngest sides in Belgium, the club has been on the rise in recent years as they combine good scouting with strong talent development.
Last seasons position: 4th
Transfers in: Nazinho (Sporting CP B), Ibrahim Diakite (Stade Reims), Alama Bayo (RFC Seraing), Bruno Goncalves (RB Bragantino, loan), Lawrence Agyekum (RB Salzburg, loan)
Transfers out: Thomas Didillon (Willem II), Emilio Kehrer (Willem II), Leonardo Lopes (free), Louis Torres (free), Sebastien Bruzzese (free)
Overview:
After years of continued success, all eyes will be on how Cercle can balance European football with domestic success. The squad is young and hungry, but also likely to see top scorer Kevin Denkey leave before the end of the window. Cercle hope he can help them qualify for the group stages of one of the European competitions before he departs. Where Cercle have excelled in recent years is having the next player lined-up for when a key player departs.
The side will once again be young, with the oldest of their summer signings being 21-years-old. Fans will have to trust that the club knows how to put together a team that can be competitive in Europe but also maintain the success they have had in the Pro League. With head coach Miron Muslic, they have a strong tactician who is also an excellent man manager. They will likely be working on more incoming players over the next few months depending on how the European qualification campaign goes. First up for the side is a trip to Scotland to face Kilmarnock.
