As a post mortem was being carried out on theRangers shock defeat by Championship side Queen’s Park in the Scottish Cup 5th round at Ibrox yesterday afternoon, one pundit in particular was shocked by the stats that prove the Ibrox side are nothing more than a bang average SPFL side.
Despite being heralded as a force in the Scottish game, their overall record of three trophies out of a possible 39 makes depressing reading for a side who have spent in excess of £100 million since their formation in 2012.

Poor Derek Ferguson on Radio Scotland was clearly still reeling from the shock result when he mistakenly proclaimed it was three trophies in 27 before host Richard Gordon put him right. Despite Gordon himself misleadingly stating it was three from 42 as he was counting the liquidated club’s tally, although we’ll forgive him on this occasion.
Why anyone would feel shocked by that stat is something of a mystery. In fact St Johnstone have won the same amount of major honours in the same period, and a little bit of research would explain just that.
It just proves that the SMSM are culpable of making theRangers seem relevant due to their constant pandering to the latest Ibrox club and their supporters.
A delighted Brendan Rodgers on trophy day, 2024
The truth that pundits like Derek Ferguson and other delusional figures in the game need to realise is that theRangers, just like every other side in Scotland are miles behind Celtic in every single aspect and not just in the trophy count. Something that looks likely to continue for a very long time.
In the entire history of Scottish football no club has been as dominant as Celtic has been for such a lengthy period of time, now spanning decades. Last midweek the Green Brigade reckoned it was time to bring back the ‘Here we Go Ten in a Row chant’ and despite getting to nine the last time around before being tripped up by a global pandemic, Celtic picked themselves up, Ange Postecoglou won two titles before Brendan Rodgers returned and he’s 13 points clear and on the way to 4IAR.
And after yesterday the odds on making that another Treble for the club increased substantially.

A bit early for that 10IAR chant? Yes, but you can understand the Green Brigade’s sentiment. Celtic just look unstoppable. Brendan Rodgers too, might have his eye on that prize. Becoming the first manager to achieve that would earn Brendan an accolade and a legendary status among the support for generations to come. He’d like that very much indeed.
