Bayern’s summer chaos: Díaz signals yes as stars depart

Bayern Munich are navigating a summer of high transfer tension and shifting priorities, according to recent reports from FCBInside and Bavarian Football Works, as injuries and key departures accelerate the club’s search for attacking reinforcements.

The situation has been compounded by Jamal Musiala’s long-term injury, which will see him miss several months after suffering a fibula fracture with significant ligament damage. This comes amid notable exits as Leroy Sané has sealed a move to Galatasaray, with Bayern’s sporting leadership publicly thanking him for five years of service and four Bundesliga titles. Thomas Müller has also ended his playing career at Bayern, with respected observers and even club figures like Karl-Heinz Rummenigge viewing a future managerial role as plausible, should Müller wish to pursue it.

Against this backdrop, Bayern’s hunt for new wingers and creative attackers is marked by dead ends as well as emerging opportunities. FCBInside reports that previous primary targets like Nico Williams, who recently extended his contract at Athletic Club until 2035, and PSG’s Bradley Barcola are firmly off the market. Negotiations for Nick Woltemade remain logjammed due to a steep €80 million asking price from Stuttgart, despite the player’s openness to a move and Bayern’s inclination to pay around €50 million.

A development that could reshape Bayern’s forward line: Luis Díaz of Liverpool has indicated, per Bild and FCBInside, his willingness to join Bayern. However, no formal negotiations with Liverpool have taken place yet, and any transfer would likely require a sizable fee—reliably estimated at €60–70 million. Díaz’s salary is viewed as manageable, with his current Reds contract below the €5 million mark annually.

Bayern remain attentive to other options on the flanks. Despite Uli Hoeneß publicly insisting that Rafael Leão was “never a topic,” transfer insider Matteo Moretto maintains that the AC Milan winger is still under consideration. Recent internal discussions have kept Leão’s name in the mix, though Bayern have yet to contact Milan or table an offer. Competition for Leão’s signature is fierce, especially from Barcelona, who have renewed their interest after missing out on Williams.

Further alternatives being assessed include Real Madrid’s Rodrygo, though the fee could be prohibitive, and, as Bavarian Football Works notes, there is interest in RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons. Marcus Rashford’s name is also being floated for a possible loan solution given Manchester United’s openness to various deal structures.

As the new season edges closer, Bayern continue to weigh their options, forced to address multiple vacancies in attack due to Musiala’s injury as well as the departures of Sané and Müller. The transfer market remains tight, but Díaz’s expressed interest could prove a significant breakthrough if the clubs align on terms.
