Bayern hadn’t lost a single game in 2020 but the Bavarians were thoroughly outplayed at the PreZero Arena after resting a number of first team regulars.

Bayern actually got off to the worst possible star, with Ermin Bicakcic heading past Manuel Neuer inside the opening 20 minutes to give Hoffenheim the lead.

And then terrible start was made even worse a few moments later when Munas Dubbar doubled the home team’s lead.

It took until the 36th minute but finally Bayern got their act together and pulled one back thanks to Joshua Kimmich.

Robert Lewandowski had been on the bench but was brought on by Hansi Flick with half an hour to go in order to try and rescue the game for the reigning champions.

But not even the introduction of Europe’s top marksman was enough for Bayern, as Andrej Kramaric made it 3-1 with a nice finish late on and 4-1 one in the dying moments from the penalty spot.
