Bayern Munich have long been considered front-runners in the race to sign Ajax youngster and United States international Sergiño Dest.
However, according to Dutch outlet Voetbal International, the pause button has been hit on those talks, largely due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Bayern are in need of a new right-back as Alvaro Odriozola will be sent back to Real Madrid this summer, and Ajax and Bayern were set to agree to a €20m deal this summer.
Now, the German giants will likely look at bigger names in the market as prices will be slashed all around the world.
Prior to the coronavirus outbreak, Ajax director Marc Overmars was confident that a deal would get done, saying “I expect it will be okay, it will just take a little longer.”
With growing uncertainty coming in this summer’s transfer window, Dest will more than likely stay in the Netherlands for at least one more season.
