Bayern Munich: Top performers from 4-2 win over Heidenheim

On matchday 13 of the ongoing 2024/25 Bundesliga season, Bayern Munich hosted Heidenheim at the Allianz Arena. After the disappointment of exiting the DFB Pokal earlier in the week at the feet of Leverkusen, the Bavarian club wanted to return to winning ways with a resounding victory on Saturday evening against a struggling Heidenheim side.

Bayern statistically dominated the visitors. They enjoyed an amazing 83% ball possession and outshot Heidenheim 21-2. However, two defensive lapses allowed the visitors to score with their only attempts on goal. Apart from the couple of lapses in concentration from Bayern, it was an otherwise dominant performance from the Rekordmeister in the absence of Harry Kane. Let us look at three players whose performances stood out in the highly entertaining 4-2 victory over Heidenheim.

Jamal Musiala

Despite starting on the bench, Jamal Musiala stole the show for Bayern when he came on in the second half to replace Thomas Muller. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder scored two superb goals. Five minutes after coming on in the second half, he scored with a blistering drive from the edge of the box to restore Bayern’s lead. His second goal was even more impressive as he ran half the length of the pitch while outsprinting the Heidenheim defense before calmly placing the ball in the bottom-left corner with a defender breathing down his neck.

Musiala was once again the difference-maker for Bayern. Based on this performance it appears that playing as a false number nine is not beyond him thanks in part to his now excellent finishing. With Harry Kane still recovering from injury it couldn’t have come at a better time.
