FC Bayern beat FC Heidenheim 4-2 on Saturday to extend their lead in the Bundesliga table. Bayern were dominant throughout and Dayot Upamecano handed them an early lead. Mathias Honsak levelled the scores after half-time, but substitute Jamal Musiala soon restored Bayern's lead. Leon Goretzka added a third and Niklas Dorsch replied for Heidenheim in the frantic closing stages, but Musiala closed out the meeting in added time.
Bayern lined up with Daniel Peretz in goal and Sacha Boey, Upamecano, Minjae Kim and Alphonso Davies in a back four. Joshua Kimmich, Aleksandar Pavlović, Michael Olise, Raphaël Guerreiro and Leroy Sané took up station in midfield, with Thomas Müller up front, although the formation remained fluid as the game unfolded. Musiala, Goretzka, Kingsley Coman and Konrad Laimer took over from Müller, Pavlović, Olise and Guerreiro in the second half, with Arijon Ibrahimović replacing Coman in the closing stages.
Bayern were in the driving seat from the start and enjoyed over 75 percent possession for the most part, with Heidenheim sitting deep. Müller saw an effort saved, with Sané miscuing a header and firing another effort wide, but Munich took the lead when a Kimmich corner found the unmarked Upamecano to head home.
Another Kimmich corner only just evaded Kim before Davies curled an effort over and a Guerreiro header was saved. Another Davies effort hit the post before Kimmich saw a shot parried. Sané fired over on the stroke of half-time as Bayern were one up at the break.
Pavlović put a shot wide after the restart, but Heidenheim levelled the scores out of the blue when Upamecano mishit a back pass, with Honsak intercepting and beating Peretz. Bayern soon replied, Olisé opening up some space for Musiala, whose powerful low drive found the net.
An Olise lob was tipped over the bar and Sané fired wide before Musiala saw a shot saved. Bayern scored a third when Goretzka found the net with the help of a slight deflection, but Heidenheim pulled one back immediately, Scienza's cutback finding Dorsch. Vincent Kompany's men finally put the game to bed in added time when Guerreiro released the charging Musiala, who rounded off his brace.
The result means Bayern top the table on 33 points from 13 matches, six ahead of Eintracht Frankfurt, who were held by Augsburg. The Bavarians will be back in action on Tuesday when they take on Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.
