The Bayern brass, it is claimed, are eyeing reinforcements in the middle of the park with a view to next season.

And front and centre on the agenda in Bavaria comes Real Sociedad standout Martín Zubimendi.

Spanish international Zubimendi, for his part, has continued to play a pivotal role for Imanol’s Sociedad across the season to date, shining from his berth at the base of La Real’s midfield.

All told, the 25-year-old has featured from the off in all but three of the club’s La Liga outings, chipping in with four goals along the way.

And his efforts en route to as much have long begun to pique the attentions of the aforementioned Bayern, giving serious consideration to a summer offer for Zubimendi.

The contract of the San Sebastián native contains a release clause set at €60 million, deemed not unreasonable by the board in Munich.

With Xabi Alonso – earmarked as the leading candidate to replace Thomas Tuchel on the bench at the Allianz Arena – also boasting previous experience overseeing Zubimendi’s development, a summer joining of forces is in turn beginning to look an increasingly realistic possibility.

And as much would no doubt come as music to the ears of the powers that be at another of La Liga’s clubs.

The outfit in question? Barcelona.

Barca themselves are on the lookout for engine room additions with a view to next season.

And Zubimendi taking his talents to Bayern could well open the door for one of the Blaugrana’s leading targets – in Joshua Kimmich – to seal a summer exit.
